5 delicious, easy-to-prepare protein overnight oats recipes

Overnight oats are a breakfast craze that’s here to stay. Any breakfast that can be made in advance is a winner in our eyes, and the ease and versatility of this option means you’re sure to keep coming back for more.

All you need is oats, milk or yoghurt (dairy-free works just as well if you follow a vegan or plant-based diet), fruit and anything else you want to add for different textures and flavours.

Protein overnight oats, or ‘proats’, as they’re sometimes called, include a scoop or two of protein powder as well, for even more filling power. And with so many different protein flavours out there, you can easily switch up your breakfasts to make sure they’re always worth getting out of bed for.

Why overnight protein oats (proats) make a great vegan breakfast

‘Proats’ often refer to standard porridge with a scoop of protein powder added, but you can also turn overnight oats into a protein-packed breakfast, giving you a little bit of extra time in the mornings, and ‘proats’ can refer to this too.

Oats naturally contain complex carbohydrates, as well as fibre; they’re a great example of an ingredient that releases its energy slowly, which can help to keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Putting fruit, nuts and seeds to your overnight oats will add extra fibre and vitamins to your breakfast, and including protein powder will increase the nutritional value further.

Protein powder also makes a breakfast more filling, and it can support your fitness regime by helping you to increase your muscle mass over time.

Traditional protein-based breakfasts are off the table if you’re vegan and don’t eat meat or eggs, but our vegan protein powders mean you’ll still get that filling power first thing, and it’ll still taste great.

Basic protein overnight oats recipe

To make protein overnight oats, you’ll need:

Ingredients

  • 45 g Oats (gluten-free oats will work just as well)
  • 180 ml Milk (oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk or soy milk are all good choices)
  • 1 Scoop Protein Powder (approx. 1.5tsp protein powder)

Method

  1. Simply stir all of the ingredients together

  2. Pour into a container, and leave to soak overnight

Soaking your protein oats overnight means they draw in liquid from the milk, which makes them expand slightly and soften, leaving you with a wonderfully creamy texture. This also provides time for any added flavours to soak into the oats and fruit.

The beauty of overnight oats is that by adding different types of fruit, different spices and different flavoured protein powders, you can create a totally different breakfast, every time.

1. Chocolate protein overnight oats

Berry overnight oats are always popular, and they’re so easy to make – just add vanilla protein powder and mixed berries to your oats and milk.

Using frozen berries means they’ll defrost in the mixture overnight, and their juice will soak into the oats too, leaving them a gorgeous pink or purple colour.

3. Vanilla and cinnamon overnight oats

Add extra warmth to our Raw Organic Vanilla Protein Powder by including a sprinkle of ground cinnamon in your proats mixture. Temptingly sweet yet lightly spiced, these simple protein overnight oats are sure to get your day off to a good start.

Vanilla and cinnamon overnight oats go well with mixed berries or chopped banana.

However, this proats mixture is so versatile that swapping the fruit for chopped apple means you’ll have apple pie-inspired oats instead – the perfect autumnal breakfast.

4. Green protein overnight oats

You could even use veg in your protein overnight oats to get your greens in first thing.

Blended spinach or kale mixed with mashed banana and chia seeds, and a scoop of our Lightly Sweet Organic Raw Protein & Greens Powder will create vibrantly green overnight oats, providing you with a seriously healthy breakfast.
